Whenever Pentecost comes around we will have Holy Spirit in mind and what He came to do, and we will remember that on that Day He came like a rushing wind. He was anxious to be working in God's people, providing them the gifts which they need and which God is so willing to give.

Earlier Jesus had told how Holy Spirit would prompt us and incite us to live righteous lives.

John 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they do not believe on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and you will see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

A. He would reprove us of sin. Not many 'sins' but one sin, the sin of not believing in Jesus. Jesus has taken our sins upon Himself in His suffering but the only thing that remains is that we must believe on Him and accept that sacrifice on our behalf. That one sin will deny us everlasting life with God.

B. Holy spirit would remind us as Christians now (having believed on Jesus) that we are the righteousness of God. We are cloaked in Jesus' righteousness. God is not imputing new sins to our account. King David, living under the old covenant spoke of this Day which we enjoy under the new covenant of grace.

Romans 4:6 Even as David also describes the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputes righteousness without works, 7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. 8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

C. He would remind us, especially when Satan tries to bring condemnation on us, that it's Satan who has been judged. We are not to judge anyone or accept another's condemnation.

Romans 14:13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumbling-block or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.

So let's remember what Holy Spirit really does when he chides us for not thinking straight - He reminds us to put faith/belief in Jesus; that we are the righteousness of God; and that it's not us who have been judged but Satan!
