JESUS IS THE LIGHT

John 8:12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Jesus is/was the light of the world. This is not just a saying about his time spent on the earth 2000 years ago. From the beginning Jesus has been the light.

If we go back to Genesis, Chapter 1, we see that Jesus as the spokesman for the Triune God brought everything into existence. But did you notice that when Jesus said “Let there be light!” this light did not come from the sun. Light came on Day 1 but the sun was not made until day 4! Jesus is the light of the world!

His light is not just visual. It's also intellectual and emotional and spiritual enlightenment.

If we look at the context of the passage above where Jesus says “I am the light of the world.” we will notice that it was immediately preceded by the incident where Pharisees brought a lady caught in adultery expecting Jesus to judge her actions.

Jesus organised events such that the Pharisees did not condemn her and He did not condemn her either. He then told her to go her way and 'sin no more'.

If you know anything about the human condition then you will know that going without committing any sins is impossible! But when someone has the gift of "No Condemnation" they are enabled to live better lives than otherwise!

That is why to the Christian who has accepted Jesus as saviour Romans_Chapter_8_verse 1 tells us...

Rom 8: 1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Jesus taught like this on other ocassions also. The idea was to make the people think... and realise that, on their own, they could not live a life that would please this Rabbi who loved them and rescued them, nor a life that would please God. They needed a Saviour! This light turning "on" in their heads pointed them to Jesus, the true light!

The incident following Jesus' statement shows Him confronting the Pharisees and pointing out to them that He was the only one fit to judge but he was not judging anyone. His judgment when it did come would be true because it would be on the witnessing of two perfect witnesses, Jesus and the Father.

As Jesus taught them about Himself only a few believed but these, like us today, had moved from darkness to the light. And Jesus said....

John 8: 31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Here is enlightenment. If we turn to Jesus and live in His word, He will live in us to make His word real and we will know the truth (God's word is truth) and the truth (that you know and live out) will set us free.

John 14:23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

When we understand the concept of the Kingdom of God that Jesus and Father God live IN the true believer and so the life we live is not ours but it's Jesus who lives His life in and through us, then we will be empowered to live righteously.

True Christians are the righteousness of God. Are we living in the word, our Manual, so that we can be changed by the living word, Jesus the Christ?

Here is a question for all of us. "When last did we believe IN Jesus and rely on Him rather than ourselves?"

If we do that we will become more honest, more loving, more truthful, more humble, more faithful, more gracious, more enlightened and thus more 'Christian' with each day we let Jesus live His life through us! Our light will shine, as....

JESUS IS OUR LIGHT!

Best wishes for Grace and The Peace of Jesus.
